Connecting an AI assistant like Claude to your Zoho CRM lets you manage your data in plain language: create a contact, update a deal, pull a report, all without opening the interface. The gateway that makes this possible is called Zoho MCP. Here’s how to set up the connection, step by step.
This guide is for Zoho CRM users in Quebec and beyond. No programming skills are required. Plan on 15 to 30 minutes for your first connection.
In short: Zoho MCP exposes your CRM’s tools as a server; Claude connects to it through an OAuth-secured URL and automatically discovers the available actions.
What Zoho MCP is, in one sentence
Zoho MCP is an official Zoho product built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets AI agents (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) interact with your Zoho apps in a structured, secure way. The AI interprets your request; Zoho MCP carries it out in the CRM.
Prerequisites
- An active Zoho CRM account, with the necessary permissions on the modules you want to expose (Contacts, Accounts, Deals, etc.).
- Access to the Zoho MCP console (free sign-up at zoho.com/mcp).
- Claude installed (desktop app) or another MCP-compatible client, on a plan that allows adding connectors.
- Admin rights to authorize a new OAuth connection.
Step 1 — Open the Zoho MCP console
Sign in to the Zoho MCP console with your Zoho credentials. This is where you’ll create and manage your MCP server. New users can sign up and get started right away; Zoho partners and developers can also use the playground to test without writing any code.
Step 2 — Create an MCP server
Create a new MCP server. This is the single access point Claude will connect to. You can group several Zoho apps (for example CRM, Books and Desk) behind the same server, depending on your needs.
Step 3 — Add the Zoho CRM tools
Select the tools (actions) you want to make available to the AI. For typical CRM use: search records, create or update a contact, manage deals, add notes, generate reports.
Scope tip: only expose what you actually need. Fewer tools means better security and a more predictable agent.
Step 4 — Authorize access with OAuth
Authorize the server to access your Zoho account using OAuth. Important: agents operate under the permissions of the user who authorizes them. Claude can only do what that user is already allowed to do in Zoho CRM. Use an account whose permissions match the intended use exactly.
Step 5 — Copy the server URL
Once the server is configured and authorized, copy its MCP server URL. This is the address you’ll give to Claude. Treat it like a secret: it grants access to your Zoho actions.
Step 6 — Connect Claude to the server
In Claude, add a connector (MCP server) and paste the Zoho MCP server URL. Depending on your version of Claude, you’ll do this in the connector settings or in the MCP configuration file. Claude establishes the connection and automatically discovers the exposed tools; no manual action setup is needed. The principle stays the same from one version to the next: one connector = one MCP server URL.
Step 7 — Test the connection
Check it with a simple, risk-free request, for example:
“Search Zoho CRM for the 5 most recently created deals and show their amounts.”
If Claude returns the expected data, the connection is working. Then test a write action, such as creating a dummy contact, and confirm it shows up in the CRM.
Quick troubleshooting
Claude doesn’t see any tools. Make sure the server URL is correct and the server is active in the Zoho MCP console.
Authorization error. The OAuth authorization may have expired, or the user doesn’t have permissions on the target module. Reauthorize the server with the right account.
The action fails but reading works. The write tool probably wasn’t added to the server, or the permissions don’t cover that action.
Need an unsupported app. Zoho MCP covers the main Zoho apps and more than 500 third-party tools; for a special case, you can submit a request to Zoho MCP support.
Security and compliance (Quebec’s Law 25)
- Principle of least privilege — expose as few tools as possible and use an account with limited permissions.
- Traceability — rely on Zoho’s access controls, encryption and audit logs.
- Data residency — Zoho offers hosting in Canada (data centers in Montreal and Toronto), a real advantage for Law 25 compliance.
Going further
Once Zoho CRM is connected, extend the same approach to Zoho Books (invoicing), Zoho Desk (customer service) or Zoho Projects, and build agents that orchestrate several apps from a single instruction.
The technical setup is approachable, but designing useful use cases, scoping permissions properly and ensuring compliance takes experience. Nuagix, a Zoho Premium Partner in Quebec, uses Claude and Zoho MCP servers in production and can set everything up for you, in French or English and fully secured.
Nuagix offers a turnkey integration service: Zoho MCP and Claude.
